Lumpini Park Hawker Centre to Boost Bangkok's Street Food Scene

In early 2026, the Lumpini Park Hawker Centre is set to open its doors on Ratchadamri Road next to Lumpini Park. This new facility will offer a total of 88 food vendors, operating in two shifts from 5am to 4pm and 4pm to midnight, providing a stable trading location for vendors previously affected by sidewalk reorganisation efforts along Sarasin Road.

The Lumpini Park Hawker Centre aims to improve the area's orderliness and food safety standards, as well as raise street food standards in terms of cleanliness. Vendors will operate in stalls measuring about 2x2 metres, and the centre will feature natural ventilation without air-conditioning, a low reflective roof to minimize light disturbance, and will operate from early morning to midnight to serve park visitors and late diners.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is also focusing on upgrading sidewalks along main roads, side alleys, and routes to BTS stations. The goal is to create a one-kilometre walkable radius around each BTS station. As of 2021, 963km of the planned 1,000km of sidewalk upgrades have been completed.

In a bid to support low-income vendors, priority will be given to them at the Lumpini Park Hawker Centre. This initiative is part of a broader effort by BMA and Governor Chadchart Sittipunt to organize street food vendors into designated, quality-controlled spaces, improving both vendor livelihoods and urban order.

The Lumpini Park Hawker Centre, set to open in early 2026, will not only boost Bangkok's street food scene but also enhance the lifestyle of locals and visitors by providing a clean and safe food-and-drink experience. As part of a broader effort to improve the livelihoods of low-income vendors, this new facility will offer a variety of food stalls, along with a home-and-garden-like atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing meal or snack.
