Application Process for Grants in the Live Music Society 2025 initiative commences
The Live Music Society has announced the opening of the 2025 Toolbox grant application process, offering up to $10,000 to small venues across the United States and its territories. Since its inception in 2023, the Toolbox program has distributed $4.8 million in funding, helping to improve live music experiences for both performers and audiences.
To be eligible, applicants must meet certain criteria. The venue must be a physical location within the United States or its territories, with a legal capacity of 50-300 individuals. It must have been operational since on or before January 1, 2022, and the venue's primary focus must be live music, with at least 50 music performances annually. The applicant must be the venue's owner or management.
Applications require a detailed budget and project vision aimed at enhancing the live music experience for artists, audiences, or workers. The project timeline and implementation plan must demonstrate feasibility, and funded projects must be carried out between December 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026.
In the 2024 cycle, 58% of eligible applicants were funded, with a total of $291,611 awarded to 34 grantees. Notable recipients include The Holland Project in Reno, Nevada, who used their grant to update their audio system, and El Rio Your Dive in San Francisco, CA, who used their grant to upgrade their outdoor sound system. Britt Curtis, of The Holland Project, reports that the updated sound system has improved the quality of shows for both performers and audience members. Lynne Angel of El Rio Your Dive mentions that the upgraded sound system has made their sound more dialed in and consistent.
Grants have supported various initiatives, such as improving safety and accessibility, incorporating innovative technology, engaging consultants, and fostering staff development.
If you are a small venue owner or manager and wish to apply for the 2025 Toolbox grant, you must submit your application between August 11, 2025, and September 15, 2025, by 11:59 pm Pacific Time.
