Appreciation for Tending to the Garden!

In the heart of Luisenpark, the Baumhain Hall echoed with applause last night as Mayor Professor Dr. Diana Pretzell and Dr. Konrad Braun of the VR Bank Rhein-Neckar hosted an event to celebrate the city's green spaces and gardening talents. The occasion was the annual flower decoration competition and allotment garden competition, organised by the Stadtraumservice Mannheim.

Approximately 800 guests attended the event, which recognised the efforts of Mannheim residents who have beautified public spaces with blooming plants. This year, six associations participated: Staudenweg and Kirchwald (both from Waldhof), Vogelstang, Wilde Au (Feudenheim), Im Rott (Kafertal), and Schönau-Nord.

The Blumenschmuck-Wettbewerb aims to raise awareness of the importance of gardening for Mannheim's climate, insects, and aesthetics. It encourages people to garden in public spaces, contributing to a greener future. As Dr. Braun, who supports the competition due to its alignment with the bank's values of sustainability and environmental protection, stated, "Gardening is not just about beauty, it's about creating habitats for insects, cooling our surroundings in the summer, and providing green spaces for relaxation."

The competition was a fierce one, with each association showcasing their unique floral arrangements. In the flower decoration competition, Staudenweg took first place, Vogelstang came in second, and Wilde Au and Kirchwald tied for third. Im Rott placed fifth, and Schönau-Nord took sixth.

In the allotment garden competition, Staudenweg once again emerged victorious. The winner of the main prize will have a tree planted in their name in a public park by the Mannheim City Spaces Service, along with a large insect hotel as a gift from the VR Bank Rhein-Neckar. Every participant received a herb arrangement as a token of appreciation.

Prizes for the competition included restaurant vouchers, vouchers for Mannheim nurseries, and tickets for the Capitol event venue. The VR Bank Rhein-Neckar, which presented the competition for the first time this year, also contributed to the prizes.

Registration for the 2026 flower decoration competition is now open at www.our website/blumenschmuck or by calling 115. The event is a testament to the power of community gardening and the beauty it brings to Mannheim's urban landscape.
