Bergisch Gladbach Launches First Bike Lanes on Hasenweg and Nachtigallenstraße
Bergisch Gladbach has opened its first bike lanes on Hasenweg and Nachtigallenstraße streets, marking a significant step towards promoting cycling and combating climate change. The city asks all road users for mutual consideration and understanding of the new regulations.
The new bike lanes, known as Radfahrstreifen, are separated from the main road by a solid line and are for use by bicycles, e-scooters, and mofas. They are marked with bike symbols or relevant signs. Key rules include: cyclists must use these lanes when available, motorists cannot use them, and parking is prohibited. All road users have priority at intersections, and the maximum speed is 30 km/h. The city will gradually expand its bike network, with cycling already high on the opened stretch and expected to increase further. Motorists must give special consideration to bike traffic.
The bike lanes on Hasenweg and Nachtigallenstraße are part of the F2 bike route, set to be an important connection in the city's future bike network. The city will monitor the implementation closely and welcomes questions and suggestions. Deputy Mayor Ragnar Migenda welcomed the opening, highlighting their importance in modern mobility infrastructure and combating climate change.
