Berlin-Based Brands Lead Sustainable Fashion Charge
A unique fashion editorial, shot by Ava Pivot, showcases the work of seven sustainable brands based in Berlin and beyond. Each label, from MICHAEL SONTAG to LA BANDE BERLIN, shares a commitment to ethical practices, reusing materials, and minimising waste.
MICHAEL SONTAG, a Berlin-based designer, defies seasonal trends, instead creating pieces that form part of his ongoing 'work'. FADE OUT, another Berlin brand, specialises in unisex clothing made from vintage finds. The editorial, styled by Izabela Macoch and cast by Whitecasting, features Vladimir Karaleev's small-series pieces, crafted in his Berlin atelier. Karaleev's works, including those from his Dis/Play Capsule Collection, have been exhibited in pop-up spaces like Nella Beljan Satellite.
Isabel Vollrath's Chaleco de I'VR label incorporates recycled materials into its designs, such as jackets made from used ballet shoes and dresses from coffee sacks. LA BANDE BERLIN, producing fluid silhouettes in Spain and Italy, uses Bluesign-certified silk and recycled polyester. For each order, they plant a tree to offset CO2 emissions. Tindi Atelier collaborates with small family workshops across Europe, supporting local craftsmanship. From Riga, Tribal Hotel, a slow fashion brand, focuses on zero-waste, using excess fabrics from Italian textile factories. Anima Protection, meanwhile, reuses existing materials and sources virgin fibres responsibly.
This fashion editorial highlights the diverse approaches of seven brands united by their commitment to sustainability. From Berlin to Riga, each label contributes to making the fashion industry more ethical, one conscious choice at a time.
