Berlin's Tucholskystraße Becomes Bike Street for Safer Cycling
Berlin has transformed Tucholskystraße in Mitte into a bike street, aiming to boost cycling and reduce traffic accidents. The 115,000-euro project, funded by the Senate Department for Transport and the federal 'City and Country' programme, was completed in June 2025.
The conversion has introduced a diagonal barrier of bollards to prevent motorized through traffic, focusing on alleviating conflicts and accidents at the intersection of Tucholskystraße / Auguststraße. Despite the changes, residents and delivery vehicles can still access the street. Additionally, new parking areas have been created for bicycles, cargo bikes, and e-scooters, encouraging more people to switch to eco-friendly transport.
The transformation of Tucholskystraße into a bike street is part of Berlin's ongoing efforts to promote cycling and create safer, greener urban spaces.
