City Reopens Vital Pedestrian Staircase After Restoration
Residents and park-goers in the southern part of the city can now enjoy a crucial pedestrian staircase once again. The staircase, a central ascent for walkers and joggers, has been reopened after a successful restoration project led by the city's Green Space Office.
The staircase, which had been closed since August due to dilapidation, was reopened following extensive repairs. The concrete steps were realigned to improve grip, and a new protective coating was applied. The railing, which had fallen into disrepair, was also fixed. Additionally, the base and top layers of the path and steps were rebuilt with a stable, sand-slaked gravel cover to ensure durability. The area around the staircase was also improved with slight profiling to better drain rainwater, preventing future damage.
The staircase serves as a vital link, connecting the former river bath, allotment gardens 'Am Eisenweg' and 'Am Hochfeld' to the district of Markersdorf. It provides a direct route for residents and visitors to access the heights of the city park hill from the floodplain forest.
The reopened staircase is a welcome addition for those who enjoy the city park and its surroundings. The restoration work ensures the safety and accessibility of the path for all users. The city's Green Space Office is commended for their efforts in maintaining and improving the city's green spaces.
