In a commendable display of environmental and social responsibility, a diverse group of individuals came together to clean up the winter crossing coastal area of Yakutsk's Lena River shore. The initiative, known as the 'oBEREGAI' action, was organised by the sales department of DEK, a part of Yakutskenergosbyt, and involved corporate volunteers from RusHydro, municipal representatives, media, activists, children from orphanages, schoolchildren, university students, and environmentally oriented children's organisations.

The 'oBEREGAI' action is not just about cleaning territories; it also aims to encourage Yakutians to treat their unique nature more carefully. During the cleanup, a total of 19 bags of waste were collected, primarily consisting of bottles, broken glass, polyethylene, and plastic.

The 'oBEREGAI' project is a part of RusHydro Group's federal initiatives and was initiated in 2005. It is a federal charity project aimed at cleaning territories adjacent to rivers and reservoirs, and includes activities such as improving beaches and embankments, planting flowers and trees.

Dmitry Platonov, deputy director of the sales department of DEK, emphasised the importance of this action, stating that it promotes environmental and social responsibility. Since its inception, over 50,659 participants have removed more than 2,352 tons of waste through the 'oBEREGAI' project.

The project's website, available at [insert URL], provides detailed information and participation conditions for those interested in joining future cleanups. It's worth noting that a local fisherman also assisted in the cleanup and transportation of waste, demonstrating the community's commitment to preserving their environment.

Despite limited information available about the 'oBEREGAI' action in wider environmental and waste management contexts, its impact in Yakutsk and beyond is evident. The 'oBEREGAI' action serves as a reminder of the power of collective action in preserving our environment and fostering a culture of environmental and social responsibility.

  1. The 'oBEREGAI' action, a part of RusHydro Group's federal initiatives, is not solely focused on cleaning territories; it also encourages sustainable living, aiming to inspire Yakutians to be more mindful of their unique nature by reducing waste, particularly plastic and polyethylene.
  2. As the 'oBEREGAI' project evolves, it has expanded beyond territorial cleanup, also encompassing home and garden sustainability by improving beaches and embankments, and planting flowers and trees, which contribute to the overall health of the environment.
  3. Embracing the principles of environmental and social responsibility, the 'oBEREGAI' action impacts not only their immediate environment but also influences the lifestyle of the participating children, university students, and others involved, fostering a culture that values science, specifically environmental science, and the preservation of our planet.
