Collaboration between SPARK Microsystems and Softgent aims to enhance wireless communication and positioning efficiency
Softgent and SPARK Microsystems have joined forces in a partnership aimed at helping customers in healthcare and industrial markets achieve breakthrough efficiencies using SPARK's ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. This collaboration is focused on providing faster, more efficient, and more impactful wireless solutions.
SPARK Microsystems, a Canadian fabless semiconductor company specializing in next-generation short-range wireless communications, is bringing its established performance leadership in data delivery, which is 40 times higher than Bluetooth, to the table. Softgent, on the other hand, is leveraging this technology to enhance its IoT connectivity platforms.
The combined design acumen of Softgent and SPARK offers flexible, integrated UWB-based platforms at unrivaled cost efficiencies and ultra-low power profiles. SPARK's LE-UWB technology offers lower power consumption, latency, and better interference robustness compared to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 2.4 GHz solutions.
This partnership is delivering high-performance wireless IoT connectivity, positioning, ranging, and tracking. Leveraging SPARK's second-generation SR1120 transceiver, the partnership offers solutions with precise positioning, ranging, and tracking capabilities tailored for healthcare and industrial applications.
The joint platforms achieve up to 10 times longer battery autonomy compared to Bluetooth, enabling devices to operate much longer without compromising performance. This is critical for healthcare monitoring devices and industrial sensors. SPARK’s UWB technology provides a data rate of 40.96 Mbps—about 40 times greater than Bluetooth—with lowered power consumption and improved robustness to interference.
The collaboration also integrates Softgent’s scalable IoT connectivity platforms with SPARK’s UWB transceivers, facilitating customers’ faster progression from concept to certification. This is particularly beneficial for rapidly evolving healthcare and industrial markets.
In applications, this combined solution supports connected healthcare devices, such as patient monitoring systems requiring reliable, low-power, and high-precision location and data communication. It also caters to industrial IoT devices, including asset tracking, inventory management, and industrial automation where precise positioning, efficient wireless data transfer, and long battery life are essential.
Softgent supports OEMs worldwide in advancing their wireless solutions, as stated by Sylvain Jalbert, the VP of engineering at SPARK Microsystems. The partnership between SPARK Microsystems and Softgent is currently extending the reach of SPARK's breakthrough UWB technology.
