Columns of Stone in Krasnoyarsk are closing for "a month-long silence period"

Starting Monday, May 12, the national park "Krasnoyarskie Stolby" will be off-limits to visitors. This is due to the traditional "month of silence," though it'll last for 11 days, stretching until May 24.

Normally, tourists are kept away during the spring months for several reasons. One is the fire season, another is the abundance of ticks, but the main one is the necessity to maintain a "peaceful awakening for the protected flora and fauna."

Both the Central entrance from Ul. Sverdlovskaya and trails from the Bobr dump park will be locked up.

Residents and tourists are kindly asked to understand this decision and look forward to the park reopening on May 24. In the meantime, you can catch a glimpse of the Stolby formations at the Eastern entrance. The GraniTnyi quarry and the Science-Exploration center at Ul. BaZaiskaya, 232a, str. 5, will remain accessible.

Beyond the Basics:

The closure of Krasnoyarskie Stolby National Park from May 12 to May 24 is a preemptive conservation strategy, often observed in natural reserves, with the primary aim of protecting wildlife during sensitive phases of their life cycles, preserving the park ecosystem, reducing fire risks, and allowing time for essential maintenance and safety checks.

Wildlife species, such as animals actively courting, nesting, or raising their young, can be easily disturbed by human presence. By minimizing tourists, it ensures that these crucial natural processes are not adversely affected.

The spring months are pivotal for the growth and revival of vegetation. Restricting visitors prevents damage to fragile flora and aids in preserving the ecological balance of the park.

Spring can also present a higher risk of fires due to dry vegetation and human activities. Temporarily closing the park limits the chance of accidental fires caused by visitors.

Lastly, this hiatus allows park authorities to carry out essential maintenance tasks, repair trails, and ensure visitor safety without causing disturbances. It guarantees a safer park environment once it reopens.

In the spirit of protecting the park's wildlife and ecosystem, one can find alternative interests during the closure of Krasnoyarskie Stolby National Park from May 12 to May 24. This could include exploring sustainable-living tips in lifestyle news, discovering home-and-garden projects, or delving into stories about the conservation efforts in news articles on other national parks.
