Cycling milestone reached in Neuss' Rhine district, covering an unprecedented 1,591,862 kilometres within city limits.
The city of Rhein-Kreis Neuss is making significant strides in promoting cycling as a means of transport, as part of a larger network of similar initiatives across Europe. This initiative, known as the city cycling campaign, is a key part of the Climate Alliance's efforts to protect the world climate and reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector.
County Administrator Hans Jürgen Petrauschke commends the enthusiastic participation of citizens in the event, with over 8,200 people taking part. More than 40 schools in the county were part of this year's school cycling competition.
In the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, the 'Tour de France' team of the Geis family stood out, cycling an impressive 1,518 kilometers per person. This earns them the first place in the overall ranking in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss for kilometers per person. The Gymnasium Norf came in a close second with a total of 118,181 kilometers. The Pascal-Gymnasium Grevenbroich came out on top with a total of 131,574 kilometers collected.
The results of individual teams, including nationwide rankings of Rhein-Kreis Neuss, can be found on the campaign website. Dormagen has the highest average kilometers cycled per inhabitant among the communities, with 6.34 kilometers. Rommerskirchen comes in second with 3.61 kilometers, and Korschenbroich follows in third with 3.32 kilometers.
Samira Smentkowski, mobility manager of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss and coordinator of this year's city cycling campaign, reports that student and teacher participation in the event promotes independent mobility of children and young people, as well as contributes to climate protection.
The city cycling campaign is an ongoing initiative aimed at promoting cycling as a means of transport and contributing to climate protection and personal health. The Rhein-Kreis Neuss submitted a funding application for the promotion of local mobility last year through its membership in AGFS.
It's worth noting that the city cycling campaign is a part of the Climate Alliance's work in 26 European countries, making it a part of a larger network of similar initiatives. The goal of the campaign is to promote the bicycle as an ideal means of local transport and encourage cycling for climate protection and personal health.
As the city cycling campaign continues to gain momentum, it's exciting to see other communities joining in, further expanding this network of eco-friendly transportation initiatives.
