Step into the idyllic world of Mike Wierz and Jürgen Wehr, two men who've transformed their Aßling property into an enchanting garden sanctuary. This revealing visit reveals the magic behind their 900-square-meter oasis, complete with a Koi pond, pavilion, and lush plant life.
Hailing from the Eifel and Oberallgäu, their shared love for nature originated in their rural upbringings
Over the past 20 years, these passionate gardeners have dedicated around 30 hours weekly to their green haven. Bengal tiger cats roam a meadow area, while an Atlas figure carries a celestial globe, and the frog king watches over the watercourse. On June 29th, the couple invites visitors to tour their garden during the "Day of the Open Garden Door."
A fascinating conglomerate of art, native plants, and green spaces
The striking summer lilac in full bloom and imposing tulip tree are merely the beginning of this garden adventure. This haven is dotted with vibrant sculptures, native plants, and secluded resting areas that invite moments of peace and reflection.
Natural design and biodiversity take center stage
With an emphasis on native plants, the couple ensures that exotics won't distract from their sustainable, bee-friendly garden concept. Wildflowers, shrubs, grasses, and wetland plants all contribute to a garden paradise that supports local biodiversity.
A harmonious amalgamation of water and life
Nestled at the heart of the garden is a crystal-clear Koi pond, home to colorful ornamental fish that seem almost tame. The water is kept pristine by frequent replacements, shade, and a small stream operated by a pump system. This haven under the sky serves as the garden owners' perfect summer haven, far from the glow of their seldom-used television.
"We've never regretted a day of living here," Mike and Jürgen stress, adding that they've been frequently visited and praised by Aßling locals since their participation in the Aßlinger Open Garden Day two years ago. This shared experience drives them to welcome fellow garden enthusiasts once more, as they open their garden to the public once again on June 29th.
