Discover the Foundations of Permaculture Practices

Andre Baptiste, also known as Andre the Farmer, is a home food-forester and popular social media personality who guides followers in creating sustainable lives through gardening tips and techniques. Based at the Permaculture Life food forest in Florida, Andre is an advocate for permaculture, a method of agriculture that emphasizes sustainability and harmony with nature.

Permaculture, a combination of the words 'permanent' and 'agriculture', sets it apart from modern, unsustainable forms of agriculture. It was first coined by Bill Mollison in Australia in 1978, and the concept was popularized by Mollison and David Holmgren in the 1970s as a sustainable agriculture system. In Germany, Volker Kranz was among the first to bring and promote the idea in the 1990s.

The ethic of Earth Care is the core principle of permaculture, focusing on working in harmony with nature. In permaculture gardening, water-loving plants should be grown in low-lying, naturally wet areas, rather than in high and dry areas requiring water. Preventing waste and growing things sustainably are ways to participate in permaculture.

Andre the Farmer offers a course titled 'Demystifying Permaculture: Simple Ways to Create a Healthy, Thriving Garden' on the our platform Learning Channel. The course provides insights into the principles and best practices of permaculture.

The three ethics of permaculture are Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share. Earth Care encourages emulating how plants would grow naturally without human intervention. People Care focuses on providing for the needs of the community and its members. Fair Share is a principle that focuses on spreading resources around to ensure no one goes without.

In addition to his course, signing up for the our platform newsletter provides access to gardening tips, videos, and a free e-book titled 'How to Grow Delicious Tomatoes'. Andre encourages gardeners to consider the impact of their individual gardening practices on the greater world.

Everybody can participate in permaculture, regardless of the size of their farm or outdoor space. Permaculture aims to feed and support people permanently and sustainably. By adopting permaculture principles, we can create a more sustainable future for our planet and its inhabitants.
