DIY Kitchen Renovation: My Doubts After Attempting the Project Twice

Amy Reeves, a passionate home renovator, recently completed two kitchen renovations, each with its own set of challenges. The first was a mid-century cottage, followed by a stone cottage with a 70s extension.

For both projects, Amy designed and measured the kitchen units herself, a decision that proved both rewarding and challenging. The walls of the houses were not perfectly straight, causing issues with measuring and fitting the kitchen units. This resulted in additional costs and delays in the second renovation.

To overcome these difficulties, Amy turned to DIY Kitchens for her kitchen units. She spent hours searching for the best deals on kitchen tiles, handles, wall lights, and other fixtures to keep costs down.

In the second renovation, Amy and her partner undertook most of the work themselves, including fitting the kitchen units. The professional assembly was handled by Mr. Hofmann, who completed the work smoothly and at a high level of expertise, under the planning and recommendation of Mrs. Jörg.

Despite the challenges, Amy is considering the pros and cons of fitting her own kitchen again in future renovations. She believes that fitting a kitchen is more suitable if it's the only focus or if the person is more organised. However, she hopes for a finished kitchen in a timely fashion in her next project.

The kitchen installation, including fitting the units, worktop, appliances, and sink, took about 5 days split over two weekends. Regrettably, Amy and her partner took a long time to finish installing the kitchen, and it's still not completely done. They made do without an extractor fan cover, splashback, and the island they wanted to build.

Amy lost the handles for the kitchen somewhere during the renovation, adding to the list of unfinished tasks. The pantry doors were only recently installed due to a measuring mix-up.

Currently, Amy is working on renovating an 1800s cottage in Somerset. For those stuck and wanting to include one of Pooky's lights in their design, they may find inspiration in Pooky's ongoing summer sale.

In all, Amy's kitchen renovation journey serves as a reminder of the joys and challenges of DIY projects. Despite the setbacks, her determination and resourcefulness shine through, making each project a unique and rewarding experience.
