Dormagen retains Fairtrade status after successful re-certification by the city authorities
In the heart of Germany, the city of Dormagen has once again been recognised as a Fairtrade Town. This prestigious title is shared with over 820 other towns across Germany, including Erlensee, Dillingen, and Langenzenn, as part of the country's commitment to fair trade.
The city's dedication to fair trade has been evident in numerous actions and events over the years, encouraging its citizens to think and participate. This year, Dormagen took part in the 'Fairbruary' action month, during which various initiatives put fair trade in the spotlight.
One such event is the annual sustainability market, where the city's environmental team informs residents about the importance of fair production conditions worldwide.
The city administration's continuous commitment to fair trade was acknowledged in the recent recertification by Fairtrade Germany e.V. Dr. Martin Brans, Technical Deputy Mayor of Dormagen's city administration, stated that the repeated award as a Fairtrade Town demonstrates the city's commitment to sustainable and fair trading.
Dormagen is not alone in this endeavour. The 'Fairtrade Towns' campaign exists in 36 countries, with over 2,000 certified cities. London, Rome, Brussels, and San Francisco are among the cities that hold the title. In Germany, 914 municipalities hold the title of a Fairtrade Town.
