Looks like the parkette at Beckwith Street North and Russell Street West is getting a facelift!
Sherrie Axford from the Downtown Smiths Falls Business Association explained the plans to the committee on April 28: the goal is to transform this space into a more enjoyable and useful family-friendly hangout spot.
The redesign includes a 10 by 10 cedar hardtop gazebo, a concrete chess table, two ground-level game installations for the little ones, and a public art installation sheltering under the gazebo – possibly a painted piano.
Two large planters will likely be ditched to clear space for these exciting new additions. However, bike repair stations and racks will remain.
The Downtown Smiths Falls Business Association is spearheading this project, with an estimated cost of around $6,500. This small oasis was previously revealed in 2022, part of the wider Beckwith Street redevelopment.
