Dutenweiher's parking area resumes operation following renovation
The Duck Pond park in Rödermark-Urberach has undergone a significant transformation, revealing a revitalized green space that promises to enrich both the local environment and the visitor experience.
Key improvements include the creation of a new path network, designed to ensure accessibility and seamless circulation throughout the park. The lawns have been refurbished, and native trees and shrubs have been planted to promote biodiversity.
Visitors will appreciate the renovated seating areas, featuring updated benches and resting spots, as well as the modernized children's play zones, equipped with safer play areas and a new playground featuring a climbing ship under a sun sail.
Water quality and habitat enhancements have been implemented to maintain the pond's ecological health and support local wildlife. Lighting and safety improvements have also been made, with the installation of new lighting fixtures to ensure safety during evening hours.
Additional facilities include a parkour area, table tennis table, seating areas for young people, and a small calisthenics area. For the convenience of visitors, a composting toilet has been added to the park's facilities.
The park redesign was financed through a combination of municipal funds allocated by the town of Rödermark, supplementary grants from regional development programs and environmental conservation funds, community fundraising, and sponsorships from local businesses. The federal and state governments covered two-thirds of the costs for the park redesign, with the city of Rödermark contributing one-third.
Mayor Jörg Rotter, along with Roland Kern (honorary mayor), Thomas Kron (head of the building office), and city administration representatives, attended the reopening ceremony. Rotter emphasized the intensive citizen involvement in the planning process and responded to criticism about the investment being a "waste of money" by stating the importance of creating meeting places and the value of the project.
