Emilia Weigel, 103, Celebrates Life of Resilience and Joy in Wiesbaden
Emilia Weigel, a resilient and joyful woman, turned 103 on October 5. She celebrated with her sons, Alexander and Michael, in Wiesbaden, where she's lived for nearly 40 years. Born in Bulgaria in 1922, Emilia has led an extraordinary life, marked by love, adversity, and triumph.
Emilia grew up in a German-speaking family in Bulgaria. Her father owned a leather goods factory. She studied French and Romanian at a convent school and later a Catholic school in Bucharest. In 1947, she married Theodor Weigel, and they had two sons. During the war, Theodor was imprisoned, leaving Emilia to raise their sons alone for four years. Despite the hardship, Emilia remained positive and humorous.
After the war, the family moved to Wiesbaden in 1986. Emilia has lived in Kastellstraße ever since. She's known for her sharp mind, solving crosswords, and watching TV. Remarkably, her eyesight is better than her son's after an operation. Her son Alexander, who lives two floors above her, visits daily and even cooks for her.
Emilia Weigel's life is a testament to resilience and joy. At 103, she continues to live independently, surrounded by love and warmth. Her story serves as an inspiration, reminding us that age is just a number, and spirit endures.
