Enhanced Education and Recreation

Widdersdorfer Street in the western part of the district is set to welcome a fresh educational and recreational haven, referred to as 'Exploradom'. This upcoming attraction will replace the shuttered 'Odysseum' and will find its home in the area that was previously occupied by Ehrenfeld.

Enhanced Education and Recreation

In April 2026, a new family entertainment and learning centre, the "Exploradom," is scheduled to open its doors in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. The centre, which will be Germany's first Family Entertainment Centre (FEC), will span approximately 32,500 square metres and be located on Widdersdorfer Straße, the former site of a Mercedes-Benz dealership.

The "Exploradom" will be a unique blend of education, adventure, physical activity, and digital learning, incorporating popular highlights from the former Odysseum in Köln-Kalk. Janine Jaensch, CEO of Edutain AG, explains that the centre is designed to convey knowledge through fun and movement.

The centre will cater to families who want to better combine work and leisure time. Parents will have the option to work in the integrated co-working area, participate in interactive stations, or relax while their children play. Children can expect to experiment, engage in role-playing games, and participate in workshops.

The MINT idea, focusing on math, science, computer science, and technology, will play a significant role at the "Exploradom." The operator, Edutain AG, plans to incorporate the twelve most popular attractions from the "Odysseum" and add new ideas.

Annual and corporate memberships will allow for childcare quotas, meeting room bookings, and lounge access at the "Exploradom." The centre aims to be a hub for education, interaction, and community participation year-round.

Renovation work at the "Exploradom" site is scheduled to begin in January 2026. The centre is not just a leisure spot but a place where discovery, learning, working, and playing come together under one roof. It's an exciting development for families in Cologne and beyond, offering a unique blend of education and entertainment.
