Pfingstkirmes in Bergisch Gladbach to Mark Organizer's 10-Year Anniversary

Burkhardt Unrau, the long-time organizer of the annual Pfingstkirmes in Bergisch Gladbach, is looking forward to a notable celebration this year. The 73-year-old has been overseeing the fair on a voluntary basis for the last four decades, and in 2024, he will commemorate his tenth anniversary in the role.

The occasion will be marked by a special ceremony for the newly designed autoscooter "Route 66," a ride Unrau has a personal connection with. In a unique event, the ride will be blessed for the first time, and the ceremony will take place at 10 am on Pfingstsamstag, June 7th, on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz.

The Pfingstkirmes is a much-anticipated event in Bergisch Gladbach, taking place from June 7th to 10th. It will feature a variety of classic attractions like autoscooters, music express, and the thrilling "Break Dance." In addition, attendees can expect a 15-meter-high Ferris wheel, the "Chaos Factory" walk-through attraction, and several family-friendly rides.

Burkhardt Unrau underlines the importance of the fair in bringing joy, relaxation, and variety to the community during times of crisis. He is responsible for organizing not only the Pfingstkirmes but also the St. Lawrence fair on behalf of the city of Bergisch Gladbach.

The history of the Pfingstkirmes in Bergisch Gladbach dates back to 1842, making it a cherished tradition in the city. The mayor, Frank Stein, expresses gratitude to Burkhardt Unrau and his wife Ute Unrau for their enduring commitment to the fair. Ute Unrau has led the municipal authority for 25 years and has been associated with the fair in her role as a responsible officer.

The autoscooter "Route 66" is another highlight of this year's Pfingstkirmes. It has been completely redesigned with new lighting and consumes only a third of the previous amount of electricity. The autoscooter is 38 years old and belonged to Günter Barth, who passed away at the end of 2023. After his death, his daughter Bärbel Barth deliberated about continuing the business but eventually decided to do so with her son.

The Pfingstkirmes will officially open at 12 pm on June 7th with a beer barrel tapping ceremony. Mayor Frank Stein, District Administrator Stephan Santelmann, Dean Norbert Höter, and Showmen's spokesperson Burkhardt Unrau will participate in the ceremony. Following the opening, showmen will distribute free ride chips for children.

The fair will conclude on June 10th with a fireworks display after dark. The Pfingstkirmes serves as an important event for the community, and Unrau emphasizes the need to foster the next generation, both among visitors and showmen. Funfair events should remain in the hands of the city, he suggests, citing Cologne as a deterrent example where a lack of income has caused concerns for some showmen.

The special ceremony for the newly redesigned autoscooter "Route 66," which Burkhardt Unrau has a personal connection with, will take place at 10 am on June 7th, marking a unique home-and-garden touch to this year's Pfingstkirmes event. Despite his numerous responsibilities, Burkhardt Unrau believes in providing a lifestyle for the community that brings joy, relaxation, and variety, especially during challenging times, highlighting the importance of events like the Pfingstkirmes and home-and-garden fairs.
