European Video Game Industry Kicks Off Pan-European "Seize the Controls" Campaign for Parents and Guardians Leading Up to Christmas in 2024
Europe Launches 2024 Seize the Controls Campaign for Responsible Video Gameplay
Europe has launched the 2024 Seize the Controls campaign, an initiative aimed at helping families set up a responsible video gameplay experience. The campaign, which can be found at https://www.seizethecontrols.eu/ and https://www.seizethecontrols.eu/local/, is being promoted by member trade associations and companies across Europe.
The video games sector in Europe is worth €25.7bn, with 53% of Europeans being video game players. The campaign provides five useful tips on managing video gameplay, including checking PEGI age ratings, using parental guidance tools, and encouraging parents to play the crazy games with their children.
Simon Little, CEO of Video Games Europe, believes these tools can encourage responsible gameplay and facilitate conversations between parents and children. He emphasized that there are tools at every parent's fingertips to ensure a positive and enjoyable games experience for the whole family.
The campaign is being participated in by several countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. Each participating country has its own initiative, such as Gemeinsamspielen, Speel Het Slim, Jouez Malin, PlaySafe, Peliviikko, PédaGoJeux, USK, Tutto sui videogiochi, RuleTheGame, PlaySafe, Zapytaj o Gry, #SaberJogar, Despre Jocuri Video, The Good Gamer, Fråga Prata Spela, PlaySmart, and Ask About Games.
According to a recent research, 76% of the parents of children that play games say their children do not make in-game purchases, and 95% of parents of children who do buy in-game extras actively monitor their children's spending. Simon Little stated that 95% of parents and families have agreements in place and supervise when their children purchase in-game content.
Since 1998, Video Games Europe has been advocating for a responsible games ecosystem. The organization's mission is to support and celebrate the sector's creative and economic potential, ensuring players worldwide enjoy great video game experiences. Video Games Europe publishes an annual Key Facts report with the latest data on Europe's video games sector, which can be found at https://www.videogameseurope.eu.
The 2024 Seize the Controls campaign was launched before Christmas, marking an important step towards a more responsible and enjoyable video game experience for families across Europe.
