Forest-goers afforded an up-close view of successful conservation efforts backed by BAUHAUS, a notable entity.

BAUHAUS, a renowned specialist for workshop, home, and garden, recently announced a series of events focused on nature-friendly gardening and the creation of urban "Waldinseln" (forest islands) later this year. This move comes as part of BAUHAUS' expanding commitment to nature and species conservation nationwide.

The initiative is a natural extension of BAUHAUS' longstanding dedication to sustainability, which was evident in their 65th anniversary celebration in 2021. During this milestone event, BAUHAUS, in collaboration with the German Forest Protection Association (SDW) and the youth centre of the Franz-Schulte-Hordelhoff Foundation, organised the Forest Experience Day. The day was designed to convey practical knowledge and emphasise the importance of taking responsibility for the environment.

The Forest Experience Day, held in Overath on August 3, 2025, focused on the development of trees under the influence of climate change, site conditions, and care. Participants visited a forest area that was successfully reforested in 2021 as part of BAUHAUS' action "1 Million Trees for Germany". Tim Kaufmann, deputy manager of the BAUHAUS Fachcentrum Cologne-Cal, emphasised the importance of making BAUHAUS' commitment to forest protection tangible for customers.

The event strengthened participants' awareness of local flora and fauna, and aimed to provide practical knowledge about the ecological diversity of the area and their contribution to sustainable change. Sören Pollmann, employee of tree plantings and forest projects at the Federal Managing Director of the German Forest Protection Association, highlighted the significance of events like the Forest Experience Day in conveying practical knowledge and stressing the importance of taking responsibility for the environment.

BAUHAUS, in collaboration with SDW, is also creating urban "Waldinseln" – small, biodiverse mini-forests. The "Waldinseln" concept involves creating or expanding small forested areas within urban environments to enhance biodiversity, improve air quality, and foster green spaces that serve ecological and social functions. This initiative aligns with the New European Bauhaus movement, which emphasises integrating art, culture, and environmental sustainability into urban spaces.

BAUHAUS, with its roots dating back to 1960, introduced a new concept of offering a wide range of branded products from various specialist departments, all available under one roof. Today, there are over 160 specialist centres established in Germany, with BAUHAUS present in 19 countries across Europe, totaling over 290 locations. The company remains faithful to its core concept of offering high-quality specialist trade products at competitive prices and continually develops it.

For those interested in more specific details about BAUHAUS' 65th anniversary forest conservation efforts, including the expansion of urban “Waldinseln” and nature-friendly gardening events, official BAUHAUS anniversary communications or dedicated environmental programs related to Bauhaus heritage may provide further insights. A document titled "25-08-04_PI_BAUHAUS_~bnistag_Overath.pdf", released on August 4, 2025, could potentially offer valuable information in this regard.

The foundation supporting the youth centre of the Franz-Schulte-Hordelhoff Foundation provides property for these events. This foundation, based in Bochum-Wattenscheid, supports disadvantaged children and young people. By partnering with organisations like SDW and the Franz-Schulte-Hordelhoff Foundation, BAUHAUS continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering sustainable change and promoting ecological awareness.
