From LA to Brooklyn: Commercial Director Transforms Historic Apartment into Romantic Haven
Talia Mayden, a 30-year-old Commercial Director, has transformed her 78 square meter apartment in Brooklyn Heights into a romantic haven that blends historical details with personal touches. The ground-floor Brownstone residence, discovered in 2021 after moving from Los Angeles, has become Mayden's dream New York home.
The apartment, originally built around the turn of the 20th century, retains its charm with a large fireplace, dark wooden built-ins, high bay windows, and a private terrace. Mayden, however, has added her unique flair, incorporating a 75 cm round paper lamp and flickering candles for soft, ambient lighting. She also included personal elements like a poster-sized photo of her grandfather and an embroidery featuring a favorite poem's last word.
Mayden's design philosophy is evident in her use of found pieces and independent designers' furniture, creating a distinctive space on a limited budget. She sells her furniture and decor before moving, inspiring a redesign each time. The apartment's original character is preserved through mood-setting colors on painted walls and hidden everyday elements like switch covers.
Mayden's realization of her dream New York life came last summer when she hosted a party in the apartment. Her creative and romantic touches have turned the 78 square meter space into a unique reflection of her personality, combining historical details with personal elements to create a truly special home.
