Gastronomic Delights on Bautzner Street
New Vegetarian Indian Street Food Restaurant Opens on Bautzner Street
In the heart of Dresden, a unique Indian restaurant, named Yummy Tummy, has recently opened its doors. Located next to Saj Padhiar and his wife Riya Damani's self-proclaimed "world's most beautiful dairy," the duo has brought a taste of Gujarat, their home province in western India, to the city.
Upon entering Yummy Tummy, guests are greeted by an open kitchen counter that serves street food inspired by Indian culture. The menu offers a variety of small dishes priced between €4 and €10, with an emphasis on spice and bold flavors. While chatting, the enthusiastic owners serve a tiny treat—a chickpea and chutney-filled pastry, delivering an initial spicy kick that soon transforms into a delightful meal. Although the menu boasts smaller portions, they also cater to those seeking larger servings. Notably, Yummy Tummy is Dresden's first vegetarian Indian restaurant.
Saj and Riya have worked in Dresden's IT sector for several years but have always dreamt of opening a modern restaurant. In contrast to traditional Indian dining establishments, Yummy Tummy aims to provide a contemporary atmosphere. The team's culinary expertise and commitment to innovation are evident in their minimalist decor.
Despite not having advertised extensively, word of Yummy Tummy has spread among the Indian community and even German visitors. After just three days, the restaurant attracted patrons from neighboring businesses, including employees of a nearby hospital. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 11 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 10 pm.
When asked about the name Yummy Tummy, Saj explains its origins from common usage in both England and India, while Riya adds that it symbolizes their mission to serve delicious food that will satisfy any appetite.
While it is not clear if Yummy Tummy features classic Indian street food dishes like samosas, chana masala, pav bhaji, vada pav, or raj kachori, visitors can expect a diverse range of spicy and flavorful vegetarian options. For a complete understanding of the menu, it is best to contact the restaurant directly or consult online reviews.
