Guesthouse in the village is elated: dishes are delectable and visitors are at ease
The Traube inn, nestled in the picturesque village of Wielandsweiler by Lake Constance, has been recognised as one of three equally ranked winners in the prestigious "Exemplary Village Inn" (Musterwirtshaus) competition organised by the Heimatpflege working group in the Tübingen administrative region.
With a history dating back to 1795, the Traube inn has been a cherished establishment in the region for centuries. Cordula Sorg, the current owner, took over the inn from her parents in 1999 and celebrated her 25th anniversary as a restaurateur last year.
The Traube inn's kitchen focuses on regional and seasonal dishes prepared with fresh ingredients, making it a culinary delight for both locals and tourists alike. The inn's old building and the shady beer garden, adorned by a linden tree, add to its traditional charm and appeal.
The friendly staff at the Traube inn ensures guests feel completely at ease, contributing to the inn's ever-present hospitality. This hospitality, according to Cordula Sorg, is a testament to the reliable teamwork of the kitchen and service team.
Village inns like the Traube play a crucial role in rural communities. They serve as central meeting places, fostering social cohesion and hosting community events. They preserve local culinary and cultural traditions, supporting regional identity. Additionally, they attract tourists, boosting the local economy and supporting other rural businesses. In many cases, they also provide essential services, such as food and accommodation, which might otherwise be scarce in small villages.
The Heimatpflege working group, which aims to make the rediscovered high value of heritage understandable through voluntary engagement, organises the "Exemplary Village Inn" competition annually since 1985. The group supports associations and organisations dedicated to the preservation of local heritage and seeks to secure the survival of village inns through innovative concepts that enhance their attractiveness as a meeting place for people in the surrounding area.
Three special concept awards were given to the Adler in Münsingen-Buttenhausen, the Hirsch in Wangen, and the Ochsen in Burladingen-Melchingen. The Hirsch inn in Tübingen-Derendingen and the Krone in Albstadt-Lautlingen were the two other winners of the competition.
In a globalised world, the Heimatpflege working group emphasises the central importance of village inns to their communities. Government President Klaus Tappeser echoes this sentiment, highlighting the exemplary village inns as shining examples of community spirit and local pride.
Predecessors such as the Landgasthof zur frohen Aussicht in 2019 and the Adler in 2024 have set high standards for the Traube inn and other village inns in the region. As the Traube inn continues to thrive, it stands as a testament to the enduring value of these traditional establishments in rural communities.
