Guide to Growing Garlic: Essential Steps for a Abundant Yield

In the heart of autumn, as the days grow shorter and the nights cooler, it's time to prepare for a bountiful garlic harvest next spring. Here's a simple guide to help you get started.

Firstly, select healthy bulbs with 4-5 large cloves for planting. It's essential to choose bulbs that are free from disease and damage.

Two weeks before planting, prepare the soil. Tilling helps to aerate the soil and allow it to settle. For beginners, test the pH of the soil. A neutral pH is ideal for garlic planting, but acidic soil can be corrected with the addition of wood ash. Add 0.5 kg of wood ash per square meter during tilling 2-3 weeks before planting.

The 'Garden Easy and Simple' channel shares methods for planting garlic. Plant the cloves at a depth of 8-10 cm, with a spacing of 10-12 cm between cloves and 25 cm between rows.

Treat the garlic cloves with a fungicide before planting. Options include Maxim, Phytosporin, or a weak solution of potassium permanganate. This step helps to protect the cloves from fungal diseases.

For pest protection, sprinkle furrows with a mixture of wood ash and tobacco dust (1:1, 1 cup per linear meter) before planting. This traditional method has been found to repel aphids and promote garlic growth.

After planting, apply two layers of spunbond mulch 2 weeks later. This method helps to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Remove the mulch when sprouts appear in spring.

Proper soil preparation is crucial for large and healthy garlic bulbs. Add 1 bucket (10 liters) of well-rotted manure and mineral fertilizers to the soil during the same period.

Lastly, store the planting material in a dry, cool place. This method helps to guarantee large bulbs and protection against diseases. Remember to remove the mulch when sprouts appear in spring, and enjoy your garlic harvest next year!
