Henkel Discontinues Iconic Fa Soap After 71 Years

Henkel has discontinued the production of Fa soap, a symbol of western consumer culture in the former GDR, after over 70 years. The exact date of its removal from stores like Rossmann and dm is not specified.

Fa soap was first introduced in 1954 as 'Fine soap in new style', standing for 'fabulous' soap. It quickly became a coveted item in the former GDR, representing western consumer culture. Henkel caused a sensation in the late 1960s with TV spots featuring naked women, further popularising the brand.

In 2022, Henkel restructured its brand, merging detergents and body care areas. The company relaunched Fa in 2025, but soap was no longer part of the product range. Now, Fa is only available as shower gels and deodorants. The soap, which could also be used as a de-icer in cars, is no longer produced or sold abroad.

After 71 years, a piece of German bathroom history has disappeared. Fa soap, once a symbol of western consumer culture in the former GDR, is no longer available in stores. Henkel's restructuring and rebranding have led to the discontinuation of the soap, leaving only shower gels and deodorants in the Fa range.
