Historic Fishing Lodge May Secure Scotland's Home of the Year Title

The 18th-century fishing lodge, known as the Earth House, has made it to the grand final of BBC's Scotland Home of the Year for 2024. Owned by Salem and Dianne, who previously renovated the 18th-century Fish House featured in the finale of Scotland's Home of the Year, the Earth House has undergone a five-year transformation.

Located near Aviemore, the Earth House boasts a unique design that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. One of its standout features is the conservatory, a bright and airy space where Dianne enjoys watching nature and the birds. The conservatory, along with the Earth House as a whole, impressed the judges enough to win the Highlands & Islands section of the competition.

The Earth House features seven newly renovated bedrooms, each with new fireplace surrounds, adding a cosy touch to the modernised spaces. One of the bathrooms in the Earth House is particularly special, with a 180-degree window offering stunning views from the home's top floor. Another unique bathroom feature is a dark shower turret room, a circular room that protrudes from the house, providing a truly immersive experience.

Judge Anna Campbell-Jones found the Earth House to be humble and generous, describing it as something deeper. She felt a visceral and emotional connection to the property, praising its personal touch that makes it magical. Judge Banjo Beale agreed, believing the Earth House has a unique charm that cannot be replicated. He found something remarkable about the property, but couldn't quite pinpoint what it was.

The Earth House scored maximum points from judges Anna Campbell Jones, Banjo Beale, and Danny Campbell, securing its place in the grand final. With its oak beams, stunning views, and personal touches, the Earth House is undoubtedly a contender for the title of Scotland's Home of the Year.
