In the heart of Drogheda, County Meath, two stunning new landmark sculptures have taken residence at the Southgate gateway, marking a symbolic welcome point to the town and the wider Boyne Valley area. Commissioned to local award-winning artist Breda Marron, the sculptures titled **"The Well of Wisdom"** and **"Boann, Goddess of the Boyne"** are more than just art; they are a vibrant new chapter in the story of Drogheda and the Boyne Valley.

"Boann, Goddess of the Boyne" rises majestically on the south roundabout, symbolizing the river's timeless journey and the unity of the communities. The goddess' cloak transforms into two embracing swans, a powerful symbol of love, transformation, and connection between Drogheda, East Meath, and the wider Boyne Valley.

"The Well of Wisdom," located on the north roundabout, invites exploration of the legendary Segais Well. The sculpture symbolizes a source of knowledge and insight, likely reflecting the deep cultural and spiritual heritage of the Boyne Valley, a place rich in history and mythology.

Ms. Marron, who is known for her artworks "Heart Space" and "Éirímís – Together We Rise," drew inspiration for the pieces from Boann, the River Boyne, and the local mythology. She aimed to reflect the beauty, history, and spirit of the community in her creations.

The installation of these sculptures was a community-driven project supported by various local and regional partners, including Meath County Council, local residents, businesses like Amazon and Coca-Cola, and The Southgate Management Company. The project took three years to complete.

Meath County Council's Chief Executive, Kieran Kehoe, is proud to support the installation of the "exceptional" new sculptures. He commends Drogheda Tidy Towns for their leadership and vision in delivering a public artwork that celebrates cultural heritage, enhances the public realm, and fosters local pride.

Gerry Leydon, Chairperson of Drogheda Tidy Towns, states the project's purpose as creating a "special and uplifting" focal point. He hopes the sculptures will inspire the daily journey of everyone living locally, visiting, doing business, or shopping in Southgate.

These sculptures celebrate Drogheda's rich heritage, landscape, and community spirit, aiming to foster a renewed sense of pride and place for residents and visitors alike. With their installation, Drogheda takes another step towards becoming a cultural hub, inviting exploration and celebration of its unique history and mythology.

The landscaping project associated with the sculptures is expected to further enhance the home-and-garden experience for locals by incorporating greenery and flowers reminiscent of the Boyne Valley's natural beauty.

These sculptures not only serve as a cultural landmark but also contribute to the overall lifestyle and sense of community pride in today's Drogheda and wider Boyne Valley area.
