Is it true that LAP Coffee, the popular beverage chain, is expanding to Baden-Württemberg?
LAP Coffee, a popular coffee chain known for its affordable and trendy drinks, is making waves in the German market. Founded by Ralph Hage, the company's CEO, LAP stands for "Life Among People", reflecting its commitment to being a part of the communities it serves.
Since its inception in Berlin in 2023, LAP Coffee has grown significantly, with over 20 locations across Germany. The majority of these can be found in Berlin, with four in Munich and one in Hamburg. The company's expansion into a region, however, depends on the right conditions being met.
Ralph Hage has stated that the company goes to locations based on community interest. In the case of Baden-Württemberg, the strongest interest appears to be in the city of Stuttgart. However, the presence of a LAP Coffee branch in the region is not guaranteed to happen on a specific timeline.
The competition for LAP Coffee is more in chains like Starbucks, Coffee Fellows, or McCafé than in small, local bars. The company's focus is on selling relatively inexpensive coffee and trendy drinks like Matcha Latte or Iced Flat White in small areas of popular locations. Espresso at LAP Coffee costs around 1.50 euros, and cappuccino costs 2.50 euros.
LAP Coffee's approach is not based on gut feeling but on concrete signals and data. The company measures community interest through qualified inquiries, inquiries from landlords, local support, and commuter flows. The industry association Dehoga in Baden-Württemberg, however, does not comment on individual companies and their strategies.
In a recent announcement, LAP Coffee revealed a clear course not to open any new locations outside of Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg for the year 2025. The company's stores are not designed for long stays and allow for online drink orders in advance.
As LAP Coffee continues to grow, it remains to be seen whether it will indeed expand into Baden-Württemberg and specifically Stuttgart. One thing is certain, though - the company is currently experiencing a real hype, with numerous media outlets reporting on it and being very present on social media platforms. Market changes are common in the catering industry, and the expansion of LAP Coffee to the region is a question that consumers are asking.
