Kate and William appear to be leaving the Adelaide Cottage.
In the heart of Windsor Great Park, a historic gothic-revival mansion named Fort Belvedere is under consideration as a potential new home for Prince William and Princess Kate. The royal family, who have been residing at Adelaide Cottage for only three years, are reportedly seeking a larger residence to accommodate their growing family.
Fort Belvedere, built in the 18th century, offers a wealth of amenities that would appeal to the family. The estate boasts an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, where Kate and their daughter Charlotte are known to enjoy a friendly match, rose and kitchen gardens, stables, lakes, paddocks, and staff cottages.
The mansion has a rich royal history, having been the residence of King Edward VIII before his abdication. Currently, Fort Belvedere is leased by the Weston family since the early 1980s, which could imply complexities regarding immediate occupancy.
Other options, such as Royal Lodge or a wing at Windsor Castle, are no longer viable due to occupancy and other considerations. As of late July 2025, no official confirmation has been made, and the family is still considering the move to Fort Belvedere.
Prince William, 43, and Princess Kate, 43, moved from Kensington Palace in London to Adelaide Cottage in August 2022 with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The family's need for more space is understandable, given the current constraints at Adelaide Cottage.
Fort Belvedere's secluded location in Windsor Great Park, with its gardens, two lakes, and three staff cottages, makes it an attractive choice for the royal family. However, it is said that the estate may be too small for Prince Andrew.
Meanwhile, rumours of a new gastronomy in Stuttgart and a surprise performance by a band called Rikas at the CSD festival have been circulating, but there is no evidence to suggest they are related to Prince William or Princess Kate.
As the royal family continues to explore their options for a new home, Fort Belvedere remains a strong contender, offering the space and amenities needed for the growing family. Only time will tell if Fort Belvedere will become the new home for Prince William, Kate, and their children.
