Kuwait to open two traditional marketplaces, one situated in the north and one in the south.
In an exciting development for Kuwait, two new heritage markets are set to be established, emulating the traditional Al-Mubarakiya Market. These markets will be located in the northern and southern regions of the country, aimed at recreating the spirit of heritage markets in a modern framework that honours tradition while catering to today's needs.
The initiative, directed by His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, reflects the Amir's commitment to supporting citizens' needs and promoting cultural and economic activities across Kuwait. The Minister of Information and Culture, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, who is also the State Minister for Youth Affairs, has been entrusted with overseeing the study and implementation of these heritage market projects given their historical and national significance.
The northern heritage market in Jahra is being supported by the Kuwait Municipality and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Housing, Abdullatif Al-Mishari. The location for the Southern Heritage Market is yet to be specified.
Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Chairperson of the Volunteer Work Center, expressed gratitude for the Amir's vision and highlighted the centre's involvement in the project, drawing on its experience with developing the Al-Mubarakiya Market in collaboration with the Center for Research and Studies on Kuwait and the Kuwait Heritage Society.
Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah also thanked His Highness the Amir for directing the establishment of these two new heritage markets. She expressed her gratitude to Minister Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi for involving the Volunteer Work Center in the national initiative.
The goal of the new heritage markets is to serve the residents of both areas and revive Kuwait's cultural identity. While no new information about the timeline for the completion of the projects has been provided, it is expected that they will boost economic activity through the promotion of traditional markets.
Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah concluded by praying for His Highness the Amir's continued good health and for ongoing security and prosperity for Kuwait. The new markets, modelled after the iconic Mubarakiya Market, are set to become significant landmarks in Kuwait's cultural and economic landscape.
