A Lavender-Fueled Love Story
With roots deeper than its sprawling lavender fields, Lavender by the Bay began as a passion project for Serge and Susan, two visionaries who embarked on a journey filled with love, dreams, and finely scented blossoms.
Seasoned with memories of tending cows in southern France and cultivating the land in Israel, Serge and Susan bought a cozy retreat in Southold, NY, in the late 1980s. Inspired by the French countryside, Serge crafted a garden adorned with sprawling lavender fields, commencing a familial tradition that would captivate heart and nose alike.
The allure of lavender quickly took root, and Susan started crafting sachets, wands, and bouquets from the field's bounty. As summerfolk and neighbors passed by, they were drawn in by the intoxicating aroma and tempted by the vibrant floral creations displayed at the end of the driveway.
The Blooming of a Business
As the demand for their lavender products grew, so too did the desire for more space to cultivate the fragrant blooms. In the late 1990s, Serge and Susan discovered the idyllic location in East Marion, NY, where they could cultivate their vision on a grander scale—and Lavender by the Bay was born!
Today, Lavender by the Bay boasts two locations, with over 80,000 lavender plants gracing 17 verdant acres at Calverton farm alone. These plants bloom in a fleeting spectacle, covering the fields with their soft purple glow and calming scent, typically from mid-June to late July and again for a brief period in late summer and early fall.
