Luxury hotel chain, The Peninsula, expands its artistic endeavors in collaboration with the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum.
The Peninsula Hong Kong, set to embark on a new cultural journey, partners with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London. This partnership, reflecting a history of collaborations between The Peninsula Hotels and UK institutions, will see co-curated exhibitions becoming a reality.
The first iteration of this partnership unveils a commissioned work curated by Dr Xiaoxin Li. The artist, Lin Fanglu, presents the sculptural work 'She’s Bestowed Love,' inspired by Bai textile traditions of Yunnan. This piece will be prominently displayed in the hotel's lobby.
Two additional commissions by Art in Resonance creators will also be part of the exhibition. The Art in Resonance series, focusing on emerging and mid-career artists, has showcased works by luminaries such as Tracey Emin and Michael Craig-Martin in previous collaborations between The Peninsula Hong Kong and the Royal Academy of Arts.
The first exhibition takes place at The Peninsula Hong Kong during Art Basel Hong Kong 2025. The partnership, however, is not limited to this single event. It may lead to further collaborations between The Peninsula Hotels and other UK cultural institutions.
Tim Reeve, deputy director and chief operating officer of the V&A, stated that working with The Peninsula helps the V&A reach a wider audience and advance cultural knowledge. The V&A's mission includes championing design and creativity in all forms, inspiring makers, creators, and innovators everywhere.
This partnership aligns with The Peninsula Hotels' Art in Resonance series, which offers funding, curatorial expertise, and exhibition space. The exhibitions aim to reimagine The Peninsula Hong Kong's storied facade and interiors.
The Peninsula New York showcases works by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, while The Peninsula Tokyo is home to 1,000 pieces by nearly 60 Japanese artists. This partnership with the V&A is a testament to The Peninsula Hotels' commitment to promoting art and creativity.
The V&A's involvement in the partnership with The Peninsula Hotel indicates a broader commitment to promoting art and creativity beyond its museum walls. This collaboration is a significant step towards fostering a deeper appreciation for art and culture, not just within the hotels, but also among their guests and the wider community.
