Wanna Take a Dip? Hessen's Bathing Lakes are a Clean Splash!

Get ready for some cool fun in the sun, because Hessen's bathing lakes have got the green light! The Hessian Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment, and Geology (HLNUG) has crunched the numbers and declared the swimming waters of Hessen safe and clean. Over half the lakes (58 outta 61) received an "excellent" rating, with the remaining three earning a "good" standing. Not a single freakin' lake fell below the bar, marked "sufficient" or "deficient".

Y'all can dive right in!

With the scorching temperatures on the horizon, 54 lakes are already welcoming bathers today. Another six will be joining the party by July 1st, barring any unforeseen snags. One lake is still keeping it beach-free, but it ain't due to water quality issues.

All Hessen's bathing lakes were put through the wringer last year, according to the EU Bathing Water Directive. They were checked for the bacteria Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci, which are telltale signs of... well, you know.

Now, hold up! Even with the outstanding water quality, there's a health hiccup. Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, might cause some temporary restrictions at local swim spots. But fear not, these suspensions don't impact the hygienic classification, according to HLNUG.

So, what's a swimmer to do about those pesky blue-green algae? Well, if you can't see your feet while standing at knee-deep water, it's time to find a different lake. But hey, keep swimming and having a blast, as long as the water's clear!

  1. At the Hessen bathing lakes, adhere to the community policy of checking for blue-green algae before swimming, as this falls under the employment policy of ensuring public safety.
  2. These lakes under Hessen's jurisdiction not only offer outdoor-living and lifestyle opportunities but also uphold home-and-garden standards, thanks to the Hessian Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment, and Geology's diligent application of the EU Bathing Water Directive.
