Maryville University Opens McNally House: A Student-Driven Wellness Hub
Maryville University has opened the McNally House, a wellness and engagement hub designed by students, for students. The house serves as a full-time resource centre, offering a 'third place' for students to decompress, especially commuters, outside of their residence.
The McNally House, which opened this month, is a result of student input guiding its development. It includes a homey living room, outdoor deck with hammocks, multi-faith prayer room, sensory room, and a basic needs community pantry, the Saints Cabinet. The pantry, expanded within the renovated house, offers food, personal hygiene products, professional clothing, and other necessities.
The house is open from 9 a.m. to midnight, allowing students to come and go as needed. Access to the pantry requires filling out an anonymous form. More than half of Maryville University's 9,200 students, including online undergraduate and graduate students, can benefit from this resource.
Maryville University adopted the Okanagan Charter in April 2023, committing to embed health and well-being across the institution. The McNally House serves as a launch pad for community partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and nonprofit partners to implement local projects.
The McNally House, a testament to student involvement and university commitment to well-being, stands as a comprehensive resource hub for Maryville University students. It offers a space to relax, access basic needs, and engage with the community.
