Mascha Kaleko's Voice Lives On: A Literary-Musical Tribute
A literary-musical evening, 'My Life Was a Tightrope Walk', is set to honour Mascha Kaleko on the 50th anniversary of her death. Ingeborg Grau will present a compassionate portrait of the poet, accompanied by Kai Dorenkamp and Matthias Lahrmann on piano and clarinet/saxophone respectively. The event aims to keep Kaleko's voice alive, representing simplicity, honesty, and humanity.
Mascha Kaleko, a prominent poet in the late 1920s and early 1930s, was known for her wit, irony, and melancholic verses. Her career was cut short by the rise of nationalism, and she was banned from publishing due to her Jewish heritage. Kaleko emigrated to the USA in 1938 and later to Jerusalem, with her poems reflecting themes of longing, alienation, and exile.
The event on October 15th will feature a biographical lyrical reading of Kaleko's works by Ingeborg Grau. Musical accompaniment by Kai Dorenkamp and Matthias Lahrmann will create an atmospheric setting for Grau's words. The organisers, Viel-Seitig e.V., aim to keep Kaleko's legacy alive through this event.
Tickets for the event are 15 euros and can be purchased in advance at Ibbenbüren City Library or by phone at 05451 / 9314200. The event seeks to celebrate Kaleko's works and her spirit, ensuring her voice continues to resonate with audiences.
