Method of the Week: Eject a Bird from Your Home

Hey there, bud! Opening up windows for some fresh air might bring in more than a cool breeze - it could also let in feathered friends! If your home doesn't have screens on windows or doors, you can expect the occasional fly or mosquito, but maybe even more surprisingly, a bird might take up temporary residence too.

Now, before you grab that old broom or fishing net to get that bird out, remember they're delicate creatures! Shooing them around can lead to injury for both you and the bird. Instead, here's a simple trick to help guide them out the door without causing any harm.

  1. Pinpoint the Bird's Entrance: Identify the window or door through which the bird entered. Make sure all other exits are closed to funnel the bird toward the exit.
  2. Set Up Visual and Audio Deterrents: Place reflective tape or balloons near the entrance to scare off the bird. Use sound devices that mimic predator calls to help nudge it towards the exit.
  3. Switch off the Lights: Turn off the indoor lights to make the outside brighter and more enticing for the bird.
  4. Open the Opposite Window or Door: Open a window or door that leads to the outside on the opposite side of the house from the bird. This gives the bird a clear path to exit.
  5. Create a Safe Exit Route (if necessary): If the bird is in a confined area, create a makeshift tunnel using cardboard boxes to steer it toward the exit.
  6. Avoid Direct Contact: Try your best not to touch or handle the bird. This can stress both you and the bird, and potentially cause injury.
  7. Get a Professional's Help (if needed): If the bird seems injured or distressed, consider reaching out to a local wildlife specialist for assistance.

In the spirit of embodying a well-rounded lifestyle, don't forget the importance of maintaining a healthy home environment. It's not just about keeping blood pressure down (health), but also ensuring peace for your feathered friends (character).

A clean and tidy home is a reflection of one's manhood (style). For instance, learning how to board up your house before a hurricane (Skill of the Week) or cleaning your entire house in 30 minutes (Skill of the Week) are valuable skills that display responsibility and organization.

Moreover, maintaining your home's exterior can also enhance its curb appeal (lifestyle). For example, keeping your home-and-garden looking tidy and well-maintained adds value to your property, just as a well-groomed man projects an air of confidence and respect.

Lastly, consider nurturing a green thumb (skills) by adopting eco-friendly gardening practices. Not only does this contribute to the health of the environment (health), but it can also provide financial savings (family) in the long run by reducing utility bills and increasing home value.
