Saxony-Anhalt, a state in eastern Germany, is gearing up for a nationwide action focused on sustainability. The Week of Sustainability, taking place from September 18 to October 8, 2025, aims to demonstrate that sustainability can be enjoyable and is a response to the scarcity of raw materials, the urgent need for climate protection, and rising costs.

The state government is providing funding for these events, amounting to around 125,000 euros. This week-long celebration will see more than 100 hands-on activities taking place across all regions of the state.

In the Anhalt-Bitterfeld-Wittenberg region, events scheduled for the Week of Sustainability include upcycling workshops in Aschersleben, a jam-making competition in Werben (Elbe), and a handicraft course in Dessau-Roßlau. The Halle-Saalekreis-Burgenlandkreis region also has events planned, such as cooking with rescued food during the "Schnippelsonntag" in Halle.

The Altmark region is not left behind, with its own set of activities planned for the Week of Sustainability. The Harz region will announce its program for the week shortly.

Environment Minister Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann has emphasised the importance of this event, stating that it is a demonstration that sustainability can be enjoyable. Partners offering these hands-on activities during the Week of Sustainable Development in Saxony-Anhalt include the Gartenakademie Sachsen-Anhalt e.V., Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU), Natur im Garten (Lower Austria), Hochschule Anhalt (Bernburg), Prof. Hellriegel Institut e.V., Elke Pasbrig (SPD state parliament), and local housing companies such as Wohnungsgesellschaft Osterburg mbH and Leuna-Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH.

Details about the hands-on activities in the regions can be found online, with the event calendar for Aschersleben already available. Stay tuned for more updates from the Week of Sustainability in Saxony-Anhalt!
