Are you bursting with curiosity to touch the past but can't seem to make it during the weekends? Fret not! Starting June 3, the Bode-Museum and Altes Museum on Berlin's spectacular Museum Island will unfurl their doors on Tuesdays - 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, according to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK).

Want to slip in a quick tour during your midweek blues? Sadly, the extra visit comes at a slight price. The house ticket for both museums will now set you back €14, reflecting the costs of the other Museum Island heavyweights.

But why the price hike? Financial pressures, you ask? Well, the venerable institutions were forced to shorten their opening hours last year, due to, you guessed it, tightened purse strings. The good people at the SPK, though, are optimistic that the museums will once again extend their closing times, thanks to the new federal budget.

About Museum Island:

  • Host to five major museums, each a treasure trove of history and culture
  • Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999

The Bode Museum:

  • Eastern crowning glory of Museum Island
  • Houses collections of sculptures, Byzantine art, and numismatics
  • Typical hours: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday until 8:00 PM

The Altes Museum:

  • A historical gem on Museum Island
  • Follows the same visiting hours as the other museums on the island

Admission Prices:

  • While specific new charges are yet to be announced, entry to Museum Island starts from around €11.20.

The community policy regarding the extended hours of operation for the Bode-Museum and Altes Museum on Museum Island has been implemented to accommodate those who find it challenging to visit during weekends. As the lifestyle changes, it's worth considering vocational training in home-and-garden maintenance for museum preservation, given the increased demands on the institutions for maintaining and presenting historical artifacts.
