Nelson Chow's Mountain Residence: A Serene 4,500 Sq Ft Sanctuary in Hong Kong

Nelson Chow's latest residential masterpiece, the Mountain Residence, is a 4,500 sq ft sanctuary nestled on Mount Beacon in Kowloon, Hong Kong. This serene family retreat, transformed from a sprawling apartment, showcases Chow's signature style, blending natural materials and thoughtful design to create a calming space for the client's elderly parents.

The Mountain Residence is a harmonious blend of Italian travertine and warm teak wood, with travertine adorning tables, walls, columns, and door handles, while teak provides textural contrast through cabinetry. Nelson Chow aimed to create an interior landscape that holds its own, despite the apartment's stunning views across Hong Kong's skyline. The living room, considered the heart of the residence, features a standout TV cabinet-slash-fireplace, inspired by a kimono's intricate, three-dimensional organic screens.

Sustainability is evident throughout the design, with natural, durable materials like travertine and bamboo fibre carpet used extensively. The apartment's layout includes a study and games room, catering to the client's desire for a safe and calming space for their elderly parents. International design brands contribute to the pristine, thoughtfully assembled furniture selection, creating a serene atmosphere enhanced by vertical elements wrapped in rounded teak or travertine, offering a soft, inviting tactility.

Nelson Chow's Mountain Residence is a testament to his ability to create a serene sanctuary that holds its own amidst Hong Kong's vibrant skyline. Through the use of natural materials, thoughtful design, and a blend of international design brands, Chow has transformed a 4,500 sq ft apartment into a calming, sustainable family retreat.
