North Fort Collins Residents Gear Up for Hearings on Contentious Concrete Plant Proposal

Residents of north Fort Collins are gearing up for upcoming public hearings on a contentious proposal: a new concrete batch plant at 516 N. Highway 287. The project applicant, Aragon Holdings, is preparing its fourth submission to the Larimer County Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners. The Fort Collins City Council has already voiced opposition to the plant, citing misalignment with the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA).

The proposed site lies within the City of Fort Collins Growth Management Area and is already burdened environmentally. Residents worry that adding heavy industry will exacerbate health risks for vulnerable populations. The nonprofit Beat the Batch in NoCo has been spearheading opposition efforts for over a year. Public hearings are expected in the coming months, and residents' voices will play a crucial role in the decision-making process. The Fort Collins City Council passed a resolution opposing the plant in July 2024, emphasizing its stance on the issue.

Residents are encouraged to submit letters of concern to the Larimer County Planning Commission and Senior Planner Michael Whitley. The applicant, affiliated with Loveland Ready Mix, is pushing forward with its plans despite local opposition.

The fourth submission for the concrete batching plant is imminent, with public hearings likely scheduled for late 2023 or early 2024. Residents are urged to make their voices heard as the Larimer County Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners consider the proposal. The Fort Collins City Council's opposition underscores the need for careful consideration of the plant's potential impacts on the community.
