Waltraut Bahr Bids Farewell to Kindertagesstätte "Flohkiste" After 36 Years of Service

Waltraut Bahr, a beloved figure at the Kindertagesstätte "Flohkiste" in Kasseedorf, retired in mid-2025 after dedicating three decades and six months of her life to the daycare. Known for her warm, constant presence and her unique way of greeting the children with "Was gibt es heute zum Mittag?" ("What is for lunch today?"), Bahr has left an indelible mark on the community.

Bahr's journey with the Kindertagesstätte began on October 1, 1989. Initially, she worked as a cleaning staff member, but over the years, she transitioned into preparing the midday meals. Around ten years ago, she stopped doing cleaning duties and focused solely on cooking, a role she embraced wholeheartedly.

During her retirement event held in early August 2025, Bahr was honoured with a bouquet of flowers, a glass featuring the Kasseedorf municipal crest, a keychain, an official certificate, and an honorary plate of the Kasseedorf community. The small gathering was a testament to the deep appreciation and recognition the community held for her dedicated contributions.

Mayor Mario Bielarz presented Bahr with these tokens of appreciation, expressing the community's gratitude for her service. Alice Petersen, the Kindergarten director, praised Bahr for her reliability, straightforwardness, dedication, and ability to prioritize. She also commended Bahr for her ability to always address problems directly, a quality that undoubtedly contributed to the smooth running of the daycare.

In her retirement, Bahr plans to make the most of her newfound free time by going for walks and bike rides. She expressed that children have always been her thing, and her warm interactions with them at the Kindertagesstätte "Flohkiste" will undoubtedly be missed.

As Bahr bids farewell to the Kindertagesstätte "Flohkiste", the community reflects on the positive impact she has had on the lives of countless children. Her retirement marks the end of an era, but her legacy will continue to resonate in the community for years to come. Alice Petersen, in her farewell message, wished Bahr future health and joy, expressing the community's hopes for her post-retirement life. However, Bahr's future plans after retirement remain unreported.

Bahr's dedication to the Kindertagesstätte extended beyond her role as a cook, as she also embraced a home-and-garden approach to creating a warm and welcoming environment for the children.

In her retirement, Bahr plans to enjoy a lifestyle that is focused on leisurely activities, such as walks and bike rides, and indulging in her love for food-and-drink, a departure from her busy life at the daycare.
