Nuts scattered on Gerhard-Hoehme-Allee
Expansion of Gerhard-Hoehme-Allee Enhances Neuss' Children's Farm
The Gerhard-Hoehme-Allee in Neuss, Germany, is undergoing an expansion, and the children's farm in Neuss-Selikum is at the heart of this exciting project. This expansion includes the introduction of walnut trees, transforming the green space into a more educational and enriching environment for young visitors.
The new walnut trees will be initially planted in a row and later along the Erft in an alley, supplementing the existing chestnut alley. This decision to introduce walnut trees was made collaboratively by the local administration and the community.
The maintenance of the orchard and the purchase of the walnut trees have been made possible through monetary donations from friends, supporters, and patrons. The new trees are a testament to the community's commitment to enhancing the educational value of the children's farm.
Neuss' Mayor Reiner Breuer launched the expansion of the Gerhard-Hoehme-Allee at the children's farm, marking a significant step towards creating a more engaging and informative environment for children.
The new walnut trees will be integrated into the pedagogical concept of the children's farm. Lessons about tree biology, ecology, the importance of biodiversity, and sustainable agriculture will be taught using these trees as practical examples. Children will learn about the growth cycle of trees, the role they play in the environment, and how edible plants support local ecosystems.
Guided activities such as observing the trees, harvesting walnuts, and understanding their uses are planned to foster environmental awareness and encourage appreciation for nature among young visitors. The walnut tree and its fruits will also be included in the curriculum of Neuss' schools, providing a valuable learning resource for students.
Additional benches will be installed in the area for visitors to relax and enjoy the new green space. An informative sign with child-friendly riddles about the walnut tree is also planned, making the learning experience fun and engaging.
The children's farm will reopen daily at 10 am starting Saturday, March 5, 2022, with a 3G certificate required for admission, except for children. A subscription to a free newsletter offers in-depth information about social developments, culinary arts, art, and culture in Neuss.
This expansion of the Gerhard-Hoehme-Allee is a commendable initiative that demonstrates the community's dedication to education, sustainability, and the well-being of its young citizens. It's a wonderful opportunity for children to learn, grow, and appreciate the beauty of nature in a practical and engaging way.
The expansion of the Gerhard-Hoehme-Allee not only focuses on enhancing the children's farm but also includes the introduction of walnut trees, contributing to a more sustainable home-and-garden lifestyle within the area. Lessons about tree biology, ecology, and sustainable living will be taught using these walnut trees as practical examples, fostering environmental awareness among young visitors.
With the integration of walnut trees into the children's farm's pedagogical concept, the farm is set to provide a useful learning resource for school curriculum, emphasizing the importance of biodiversity and sustainable agriculture in the home-and-garden setting, thereby promoting a lifestyle that benefits both the environment and education.
