Open-Air Animal Shelter Event in Dresden Today
The Dresden Animal Shelter is inviting animal lovers to visit their facility today between 13:00 and 16:00 for their Open House Day. This event, which takes place at the shelter, aims to provide insight into the world of animal care and adoption.
During the Open House Day, visitors will have the opportunity to meet a variety of animals, including 23 dogs, 44 cats, and 32 other animals such as rodents, birds, and reptiles, all of whom are available for adoption. One of the dogs, Jackson, a male Husky, born on October 18, 2013, with an approximate shoulder height of 60 cm, has been at the shelter since June 6, 2023, after being given up.
Jackson is a lively and friendly dog who enjoys cuddles but can be challenging at times. He tries to dominate his leash holder, a behaviour that needs to be addressed by his future owner. To ensure a successful adoption, the shelter recommends a patient owner who is familiar with the Husky breed and can help Jackson learn basic commands and walks properly on a leash.
The Open House Day is not just about meeting the animals. Visitors will also receive information about veterinary medicine, species-appropriate nutrition, vaccination, sterilization, common veterinary treatments, pet passports, and identification of dogs and cats. Additionally, they will learn about what an animal expects from them, what they should pay attention to as pet owners, what requirements their home should meet, the cost of a pet, the adoption process, and whether adopting a pet is better than buying one.
The event also offers a framework program, including dog training advice for dog owners and cat care and hygiene information for cat lovers. Those interested in volunteering at the animal shelter will also receive information.
For detailed and up-to-date information about the Open House Day program, visitors are encouraged to visit the official website of the Dresden Animal Shelter at www.dresden.de/tierheim or contact them directly for precise event descriptions and schedules. The entire program can be found on the website.
