Over 900,000 Pura air fresheners pulled from the market due to safety concerns

The Pura 4 Smart Home Fragrance Diffuser, a popular home accessory, has been recalled due to a serious ingestion hazard posed by magnets inside the detachable front cover of certain units.

Safety Concerns

The two larger magnets inside the cover may detach, posing a choking and swallowing hazard, especially to children and pets. If swallowed, multiple small powerful magnets can attract each other through intestinal walls, causing severe internal injuries such as perforations, blockages, twisting of intestines, infection, blood poisoning, or even death.

As of early July 2025, there have been no injury reports in Canada, but the company reported 3 incidents of magnet detachment in the U.S. with no injuries.

Recall Instructions

Users are advised to immediately stop using the diffuser in areas accessible to children and pets. The detachable magnetic cover of affected units should be discarded. To obtain a replacement cover that does not pose this hazard, contact Pura Scents toll-free at 855-394-5292 (9 a.m.–5 p.m. MT, Monday–Friday) or email [email protected].

The recall affects Pura 4 models labeled “Version Number: V4” with serial numbers from JX230000001 to JX230801425 and JX240000001 to JX240049959.

Affected Units and Retailers

About 851,400 units are involved overall, including approximately 1,100 units sold in Canada. The recalled diffusers were sold at Pura, Amazon, Scheel, and Target.

Alternative Options

For those seeking alternatives, the smaller Pura diffuser, priced at $34.99 at Target, allows adjustment of scent intensity and scheduling or timing via the Pura app. Another highly rated diffuser on Amazon, priced at $34.95, has seven ambient light modes and four timer settings.

The Amazon diffuser set includes ten essential oils, such as tea tree, lavender, and lemongrass. The ceramic diffuser on Amazon, now 22% off at $25.64, has two misting modes and a night light capability.

It's important to note that the InnoGear Oil Diffuser on Amazon does not include oil. The Pura Scents will contact affected customers. Users can also contact them to request a replacement cover via their website.
