Neuss Town Hall Canteen Embraces Sustainability and Regionality
The Neuss Town Hall canteen has made a significant shift in its food sourcing policies, with a focus on sustainability and regionality. Fruit and vegetables are now obtained from a wholesaler based in Düsseldorf and, whenever possible, from operations in the district area. This move aims to support local farmers and reduce the carbon footprint of the canteen's supply chain.
Lutz Geuenich, the canteen's owner, is at the helm of this change, prioritising sustainability and promoting regionality in the canteen's offerings. In line with this, the canteen is now offering one organic dish per week, made exclusively from organic farming ingredients and prepared fresh daily.
Breakfast is served in the canteen from Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 10 am, and new lunch dishes can be tried from 11 am to 2 pm, Monday to Thursday. Eggs for the canteen are now sourced from Kuppers poultry farm in Kaarst, which stands against "chick culling" and raises cockerels.
The canteen is also making strides in diversifying its menu to include more vegetarian meals. This is part of a broader effort to cater to a wider range of dietary preferences and promote a healthier, more sustainable food culture.
The Neuss Town Hall canteen currently operates under the 2G rule, ensuring a safe environment for its patrons.
