XD Productions has crafted an innovative twist on the traditional escape game, titled "Amelia's Secret", which employs augmented reality (AR) to transform living spaces into immersive haunted houses. This board game 2.0 is set to launch on 23 July 2021, offering players an engaging, thrilling experience.
To play, players require a tablet or smartphone to scan a series of "virtual object" cards, known as markers, that resemble QR codes. These cards are strategically placed around a room, such as on walls or floor, to reveal 3D elements of a virtual manor house on the touch screen. The set comprises items like an old telephone, a jewellery box, or a painting of a former housewife, rendering a captivating, household-based escape experience.
As in any escape game, riddles must be deciphered to progress through the game's narrative. The cooperative nature of the game, where collaboration among players is vital for success, remains a crucial factor. Whether playing with friends, family, or colleagues for team-building exercises, the easy installation process demands only that the cards be laid out in the desired positions.
Amelia's Secret has been designed using Unity for both Android and iOS devices and is recommended for ages 12 and up. XD Productions will exhibit their work at the general public's website festival in Laval, France, from July 3 to 11, providing an opportunity for attendees to test the game. Registration is free.
