In the heart of Wiesbaden, the city's playgrounds are a cherished spot for children and families alike. The maintenance and cleanliness of these play areas are taken seriously, with the Green Office (ELW) assuming responsibility from the city in 2020.

Since then, ELW has been working closely with the Parks Department to ensure the cleanliness and safety of Wiesbaden's playgrounds year-round. The playground on Brunhildestraße, for instance, is cleaned twice a week, while others receive cleanings up to five times a week.

Each week, the functionality of the play equipment, including swing seats, chains, slides, screws, wooden beams, and more, is checked to ensure everything is in working order. If any issues are found, minor repairs are made immediately, such as replacing swing seats, tightening screws, or filing down split wooden beams. Major repairs are carried out annually.

Once a year, a comprehensive inspection is conducted on every playground, which includes a thorough functionality check and a check of all foundations and components. The latest inspection has confirmed that all play equipment is functional.

During their cleanings, ELW's team has found waste including cigarette butts, glass shards, bottle caps, syringes, used condoms, and dog feces. However, the team is equipped to handle these situations, using tongs to pick up waste from sandboxes and around swings and climbing frames.

In 2025, 995,000 euros are planned for replacement purchases, with some already implemented in various playgrounds across the city. In 2024, ELW spent 350,000 euros on repairs and 635,000 euros on replacement purchases for Wiesbaden's playgrounds.

The safety of the play equipment is also checked once a week by ELW employees. Defective components are dismantled and repaired in the workshop of the Green Office.

For any inquiries or further information, the contact information for the responsible department or office can be found on the press office website: https://www.wiesbaden.de/pressereferat.

It's worth noting that the playgrounds are not only cleaned and maintained for World Children's Day but throughout the entire year. The city of Wiesbaden is committed to providing a safe and clean environment for its youngest residents to play and grow.
