Two Distinguished Citizens Honored with Portus Medal in Pforzheim

In a captivating ceremony at the town hall, Mayor Peter Boch presented the Portus Medal, the city's highest accolade, to two esteemed figures for their exceptional services to Pforzheim society.

Reiner Lichtenberger and Peter Wagner were recognized for their unwavering dedication and remarkable contributions to the city. Mayor Boch commended their personal commitment and lasting impact on the community, stating, "The Portus Medal is not only a token of our appreciation for your personal efforts, but also a testament to the invaluable value of your contributions to our city."

Reiner Lichtenberger's lifelong passion for local history earned him the honor. After a distinguished career of 27 years at the criminal police in Pforzheim, he turned his focus to the history of Baden and Pforzheim police. His meticulous research and historical interest resulted in several comprehensive documentations now housed in the city archive and accessible to the public. The mayor highlighted the significance of Lichtenberger's work, emphasizing, "You have demonstrated the passion, perseverance, and dedication required to unveil the hidden gems of local history."

As a honorary Pforzheimer since 1993, Peter Wagner was honored for his exceptional voluntary commitment, particularly as the long-standing chairman and co-founder of the association "Pforzheim mitgestalten e. V." Under his leadership, the association spearheaded many city-shaping projects, such as the Wallberg stele, bridge lighting, and Goldschmiedemeile. Wagner's vision was to enhance the beauty, livability, and vibrancy of Pforzheim. The mayor acknowledged the association's development under Wagner's leadership, praising the association as "a creative driving force, an active implementer, and a valuable partner of the city administration."

Pforzheim, a city renowned for its rich heritage in jewelry and watchmaking industries, has been bestowing the Portus Medal since the late 1990s to honor exceptional services. The medal's name is derived from the Latin word 'Portus,' symbolizing the city's probable origins as a harbor or marketplace. This historical nod serves as a reminder of Pforzheim's Roman beginnings, which are showcased in the Archaeological Museum.

The successful careers and contributions of these two honorees underscore the city's ongoing commitment to recognizing and celebrating its distinguished citizens.

Reiner Lichtenberger's extensive research and documentation of local history not only enriches the city archive but also contributes significantly to the home-and-garden of local knowledge within Pforzheim. Peter Wagner's chairmanship and co-founding role in the association "Pforzheim mitgestalten e. V." has deeply influenced the city's lifestyle, presenting the city with notable landmarks and fostering a more beautiful, livable, and vibrant community.
